The Role:
Proton is seeking a seasoned Senior Backend Engineer to join our rapidly expanding SaaS team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of the Proton.ai platform. You’ll collaborate with our engineering team to build a scalable, customizable, high-performance, and secure application.
We’re looking for a technically adept individual with a passion for modern tech stacks and systems. Your expertise will guide us in selecting and implementing solutions that align with our long-term engineering goals.

Gross Salary Range: $50,000 - $70,000 USD annually, depending on experience.
What You’ll Do:
- Feature Development: Lead backend development for new features, collaborating with the Product team to assess complexity and tradeoffs. Drive end-to-end feature delivery, from ideation to production, ensuring rapid value creation for our customers.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineering, infrastructure, frontend, and DevOps, to provide architectural guidance and ensure our tech stack supports future growth.
- Enterprise Customizability: Use your experience with enterprise applications to tailor solutions that meet the unique needs of our corporate clients.
- Performance and Reliability: Contribute to building high-performance, reliable applications, and participate in discussions around architecture and data flow.
You’ll Be a Great Fit If:
- You have 7+ years of experience building and deploying scalable SaaS applications, ideally in startup environments.
- You bring 5+ years of expertise in backend technologies, preferably Python or Go (C# or Java are also acceptable).
- You have a proven track record of making impactful product architecture decisions and system improvements, with a strong focus on secure coding practices for enterprise-level customers.
- You possess a deep understanding of cloud-native technologies, including databases, application performance, scalability, and security.
- You’re curious about emerging technologies and enjoy exploring new frameworks, tools, and software advancements to identify the best solutions for specific use cases.
- Experience with enterprise applications is a plus.
- You excel at communicating complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Backend:
- Elasticsearch & Redis as primary databases (actively migrating to SQL).
- Python-based API services running in Kubernetes.
- Daily pre-computations managed via Airflow.
- Machine learning and AI models, including neural networks.
- Machine Learning Engineers focus on improving existing models and developing new ones.
Frontend:
- Vue.js 3/Nuxt 3.
- Migrating from ElementPlus/iView to Vuetify.
- Docker and Kubernetes for deployment.
- Github Actions for CI.
