Do you have a passion for improving customer experiences using geospatial technology? MapTiler is looking for a Map Search Engineer to join our team of software engineers and data analysts. In this position, you will lead innovation in map search, work closely with teams and stakeholders, and shape the future of our product. You'll take charge of problem-solving, participate in design and code reviews, and help deliver solutions that impact millions of users globally. Your Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimize the search server to enhance geocoding results.
- Oversee the ingestion, transformation, and curation of raw geospatial data.
- Develop pipelines to convert large-scale data sources (e.g., Planet OSM PBF) into specialized data structures that power our geocoding service.
- Manage releases, automated data processing pipelines, automated tests, and other core programming tasks.
- Monitor the geocoding service and design targeted improvements.
What We Expect From You
- Ability to take ownership, define requirements, set priorities, and drive progress with other team members.
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills, along with hands-on expertise in programming, system design, and problem-solving.
- Extensive professional experience in software engineering.
- Fluent in English, with excellent listening and communication skills, even in a remote work environment.
- Experience in cross-team collaboration and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep understanding of common data structures.
- Knowledge of the OpenStreetMap data model and its limitations.
- Strong development experience in TypeScript, Node.js, Java, and Rust.
- Strong database experience.
- Focus on writing efficient code while collaborating with team members. Understanding that readable and maintainable code is often more important than the most elegant solution.
- Experience working in distributed engineering teams and familiarity with Agile development and Scrum methodology.
- Familiarity with the GIS (maps) domain, including geocoding and routing.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of Python, Ansible, and Bash scripting.
- Experience with Docker.
- Familiarity with OSM data-processing tools (e.g., osmium).
- Understanding of OpenStreetMap data structures (tagging schema).
- Machine learning experience.
