Head of Business Development (£120k OTE) at Ellipsis®

As the Head of Partnerships, you will play a pivotal role in scaling our revenue from £1.3M to £1.8M in 2025 while improving margins. You will cultivate and expand partnerships with B2B marketing leaders at companies with $2M-50M ARR, leveraging your commercial expertise and deep understanding of organic acquisition strategies.
This role encompasses both agency partnerships and the growth of our FALCON AI (SaaS) product. You will take full ownership of strategic planning and hands-on execution, ensuring the success of both areas.
We are seeking an experienced professional with a background in Account Management, Business Development, Strategic Partnerships, or Client Success. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of driving revenue growth, excels in consultative sales, and possesses the technical aptitude to navigate medium-length sales cycles. You should be adept at both acquiring new business and retaining existing clients.

Your first six months will focus on mastering our approach and driving client retention. You will learn how our clients define success, enabling you to identify expansion opportunities that feel natural and beneficial. Following this, you will transition into aggressive new business growth.
This dual focus on being a trusted advisor and an effective executor is what sets exceptional partnership leaders apart. We need someone who can maintain strong relationships while independently driving growth initiatives to completion.

Building on Strong Foundations

You will join a business with significant momentum. Our established marketplace presence, client relationships, and inbound marketing engine consistently generate high-quality leads.
This role opens as our previous Head of Partnerships moves on after driving 3.5 years of impressive growth. We have maintained a 40% year-over-year revenue growth rate and have ambitious plans to continue this trajectory.
Ellipsis’ success is built on three core pillars:
  • Technology: Our in-house FALCON AI product uses machine learning to predict SEO Content rankings. Featured in The New York Times before ChatGPT’s release, FALCON AI is a competitive advantage and a standalone SaaS product.
  • Expertise: Our in-house team delivers proven results, handling everything from SEO strategy to content production, writing, and design.
  • Process: We deliver high-quality content on time, every time. Our commitment to quality ensures client satisfaction and consistent results.
AI has transformed SEO, and we’ve already adapted. While others scramble to catch up, we’ve solved the challenges posed by Google’s AI Overviews and shifting metrics. We’re excited to find the right person to help us continue leading the industry.

Core Responsibilities:

Revenue Growth (60%)
  • Increase agency revenue from £1.3M to £1.8M in 2025.
  • Grow FALCON AI SaaS revenue from £50k to £150k in 2025.
  • Own the full sales cycle, from lead generation to closing deals.
  • Build and maintain key client relationships.
  • Optimize pricing and packaging strategies.
  • Expand beyond the WordPress ecosystem.
Strategic Leadership (25%)
  • Collaborate with the Strategy team to develop client solutions.
  • Lead organic marketing strategy discussions with clients.
  • Refine technical recommendations and client-facing presentations.
  • Identify market opportunities and threats.
  • Mentor team members in client relationship management.
  • Make decisive decisions with incomplete information when necessary.
Team Collaboration (15%)
  • Work closely with Strategy and Content teams.
  • Identify skill gaps and lead training initiatives.
  • Ensure alignment between sales promises and delivery.
  • Support team success in high-priority situations.
  • Take ownership of cross-team challenges proactively.

Required Capabilities:

We will provide a crash course in our unique SEO Content approach, which delivers 2.8x more success than the industry standard, and our FALCON AI technology. You will need to quickly absorb this knowledge and apply it in client discussions.
This role requires travel 6-8 times a year for team meetups and international conferences, primarily in the US and Europe.

Compensation:

Our compensation structure rewards sustainable growth and deep understanding of our approach. The first six months focus on building this foundation, with increasing earning potential as you apply this knowledge.
£70,000 base salary with £120,000 OTE (full earning potential from month 7, expected £90-110k in year 1). The variable compensation is structured as follows:
  • Commission Structure:
    • Months 1-3: Base salary only.
    • Months 4-6: £3,000 quarterly retention bonus (90%+ retention by revenue).
    • Months 7+: Full commission structure:
      • £3,000 quarterly retention bonus (90%+ retention by revenue).
      • Tiered commission on net account growth (3% to 6%).
      • New client acquisition: £2,000 per client (£20k+ ARR), with an extra £1,000 per client from the 11th client onwards each year.
    • FALCON AI: flat 10% of all your revenue.
  • Notes:
    • Commissions are uncapped.
    • A 50% commission clawback applies to churn or spending decreases within the first 12 months of a new client relationship.
    • Commission excludes pre-existing baseline revenue.
    • We project £90k-£100k for Year 1 and £110k-£140k for Year 2.
This structure is designed to reward sustainable growth through acquisition and relationship building, with a focus on maintaining strong client relationships.
