About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior or higher full-stack developer with a sharp product mindset and a keen eye for user interface design. Our tech stack includes React (TypeScript with Tailwind/Shadcn) and Ruby on Rails (Rails experience is a bonus but not mandatory).
As the first product engineer on our team, you’ll take charge of our internal platform, which powers everything from SEO tools to AI-driven text editing. You’ll collaborate closely with our CTO, laying the groundwork for a team we plan to expand in early 2024.
As an AI-native company, we expect all team members to embrace AI tools to enhance productivity. Familiarity with tools like Cursor or Windsurf is crucial, and we’re excited to see how you’ll help us innovate.
This is a fully remote position, but we require at least 4 hours of overlap with US Pacific Time during standard working hours.
Requirements
What You'll Do
- Work with service and technical teams to design and deliver full-stack solutions for clients and internal operations.
- Develop and maintain features using React (TypeScript) and Ruby on Rails, improving internal workflows and tools.
- Transform whiteboard ideas into polished, production-ready features with exceptional UX.
- Leverage tools like Cursor to speed up development, simplify maintenance, and optimize workflows.
- Focus on creating intuitive, visually appealing interfaces that deliver a seamless user experience.
- Manage and deploy infrastructure for internal platforms.
- Design features with a strong emphasis on usability, ensuring clear and enjoyable interfaces.
- Write concise, effective UI copy.
- Support marketing efforts with small coding projects as needed.
- Assist in building and maintaining AI workflows (no prior experience required, but a willingness to learn is essential).
About You
We’re seeking someone with:
- Proven Experience: Strong full-stack development skills, including React, Ruby on Rails (or Python), PostgreSQL, and familiarity with frontend frameworks like Tailwind or Shadcn.
- Passion for AI: Enthusiasm for GenAI, LLMs, and tools like Cursor or Windsurf, with experience using them to accelerate development.
- Design Sensibility: A knack for creating user-friendly interfaces independently, with a focus on clarity and usability.
- Ownership: A self-starter attitude, capable of managing projects and priorities with minimal oversight.
- Collaborative Spirit: A team player who thrives on proactive communication and constructive feedback.
- Communication Skills: Clear and proactive communication, essential for remote collaboration, ensuring the team stays informed and aligned.
- Pragmatism: A focus on practical, impactful solutions, avoiding over-engineering or unnecessary complexity.
- Project Management: Strong organizational skills, keeping tasks and tickets updated, and ensuring the team is aware of progress and blockers.
This role is ideal for someone who has built entire projects independently, even as side projects, rather than someone who prefers structured guidance.
A Typical Week at GrowthX
Here’s how your time might be spent in a typical week:
- 15% - Brainstorm features with the founders for our internal platform.
- 10% - Refine paper wireframes with the founders to clarify ideas before coding.
- 10% - Collaborate with the Content team to understand their needs and workflows.
- 30% - Develop the frontend for our internal platform using React/Shadcn.
- 25% - Build the backend and database using Ruby on Rails and Postgres to support the frontend.
- 10% - Update tasks and communicate project progress in Basecamp.
