The Opportunity
We are looking for a Member Support Technical Specialist (MSTS) to aid in every dimension of integrations and implementations involving our members and service providers. The chosen candidate will develop expertise in ORCID's API and registry as well as best practices for integration, enabling them to address technical inquiries, solve problems, and provide training related to ORCID services. Suitable candidates should have a strong background in scholarly infrastructure and workflows, along with an understanding of modern web API standards and technologies.
This full-time position (40 hours per week) is within our Engagement team and reports directly to the Support Manager. As with all positions at ORCID, this role is completely remote and requires operating during European or American standard business hours (Monday–Friday), ensuring at least four overlapping hours of collaboration with team members between 1300-2000 UTC, with a few scheduled meetings in the 1400 - 1700 UTC timeframe. ORCID also provides flexible scheduling outside of these core hours.
Main Tasks
- Deliver top-notch technical support to ORCID members and service providers
- Enhance the number of members who are fully integrated with ORCID platforms
- Act as a go-to expert regarding ORCID APIs, user interfaces, integrations, and overall workflow services
- Conduct technical training for ORCID stakeholders (both virtual and face-to-face)
- Collaborate with the ORCID technical team to tackle complex technical issues
- Identify opportunities for integration enhancements for ORCID members and guide implementation
- Handle technical matters with our partner organizations as necessary
- Adopt a proactive approach in spotting improvement opportunities within support and technical processes to boost operational efficiency
Required Qualifications
- Experience in working with scholarly infrastructure systems
- Familiarity with scholarly workflows (e.g. Repositories, Manuscript Submission, Grant Applications, etc.)
- Proficient knowledge of contemporary web API standards and technologies (notably HTTP, REST, OAuth, XML, and JSON) and the ability to troubleshoot API-related problems
- Skill in conveying technical concepts to diverse audiences, both technical and non-technical
- Comfort with offering both live support (via video conferencing) and offline support (via email and support tickets)
- Ability to conduct occasional training sessions for stakeholders and deliver presentations at webinars and/or in-person events
- Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Support tools (with preference for Zendesk and Salesforce)
- Fluent in English; proficiency in additional languages is advantageous
- Willingness to travel as needed for business (less than 10%)

Compensation Details
ORCID’s compensation strategy considers factors such as an applicant’s skills, experience, geographic location, and internal equity while determining salary. As a remote organization with a global workforce, our salary ranges vary by location for specific roles. The general salary range for this position is 35k-55k.
