Position Overview
We are in search of a creative and flexible Data Engineer to join our Research team. This position places you right at the heart of developing and improving our data systems, with a specific emphasis on the pipelines that support our Atlas by Murmuration initiative. Atlas by Murmuration represents our comprehensive data product that portrays a detailed and interconnected view of American civic life. You will engage directly with stakeholders, data custodians, and analysts to design, structure, and produce solutions that further our organizational mission. The Data Engineer will report to our Senior Data Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with diverse teams to identify challenges, devise solutions, and implement data pipelines that cater to both short-term and long-term objectives;
- Create and sustain scalable and dependable data pipelines utilizing tools such as Dagster, Airflow, Snowflake, AWS, MongoDB, and dbt;
- Oversee data from multiple sources, ensuring timely ingestion, quality assurance, and data integrity;
- Convert raw data into structured, accessible formats that empower our analytical and product teams;
- Set up and manage effective monitoring, alerting, and documentation systems;
- Continuously enhance our data infrastructure for optimal performance and efficiency;
- Offer assistance and troubleshooting solutions for data-related concerns across the organization; and
- Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.
Qualifications:
- A problem-solver who is enthusiastic about leveraging data and technology for social good;
- Educational background and/or experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline;
- A minimum of three (3) years' relevant experience in data engineering or a related sector;
- A curious individual with a strong desire to continuously learn and embrace new technologies and challenges;
- Familiarity with data orchestration tools (e.g., Dagster, Airflow) and ELT processes (e.g., dbt);
- Acquaintance with analytic databases (e.g., Snowflake) and cloud technologies (e.g., AWS);
- Experience with flexibility within smaller teams;
- Hands-on knowledge of the software development lifecycle (SDLC);
- Proficiency in Python, Docker, and container orchestration platforms;
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automation instruments; and
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Traits:
- Acquaintance with Voter File Data;
- Experience with or interest in political data; and/or
- Background in providing technical support to other data functions (e.g., Data Scientists, Data Managers, etc.).

Compensation and Benefits
Location and Salary
The Data Engineer position is a full-time, salaried role accompanied by an extensive benefits package (details available below). This position can be based anywhere in the U.S. The starting salary range is between $100,000 and $130,000, depending on experience.
