Lead Software Engineer at Perfect (Stealth Technology Startup)

We are a funded, stealth-mode startup focused on modernizing overlooked assets in the hospitality industry.
We are assembling a distributed, lean founding software engineering team. This team will collaborate directly with and report to our CTO, who brings extensive venture-building experience.
If you are a high-impact, low-ego engineer who:
  1. delivers performant code with predictable operational traits,
  2. has gone beyond casual experimentation with LLMs and code generation, and
  3. can overlap at least 4 hours with UTC-04:00…

What You’ll Do
  1. Build our core platform from scratch
  2. Design APIs and data models to enable smooth integrations with hospitality systems
  3. Develop AI-powered features using LLMs and modern machine learning tools
  4. Own end-to-end delivery from requirements to production
  5. Work closely with our CTO and founding team
  6. Research, evaluate, and experiment with emerging technologies and tools
What We’re Looking For
Technical Skills
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Strong backend proficiency in modern languages (Go, Python, JavaScript, or similar)
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization
  • Database and data modeling expertise in both relational and non-relational systems
  • API development experience using REST and RPC
  • Practical experience and thoughtful perspectives on LLMs and automated code generation in a modern engineering context
Soft Skills & Working Style
  • Founding team mindset – you excel in ambiguous, fast-paced environments
  • Systems thinking – you prioritize scalability, maintainability, and operational needs from the start
  • Communication abilities – you can convey complex technical ideas to non-technical audiences
  • Self-motivated – you work independently while staying aligned with team objectives
  • Quality-driven – you write maintainable, well-tested code
  • Ownership-oriented – you keep user needs central and take responsibility for results
Helpful, but not required
  • Background in hospitality or travel (e.g., integrations with OHIP, MEWS, etc.)
  • DevOps and infrastructure automation experience
  • Open source contributions or technical writing
  • Previous startup experience, especially at the founding stage
  • Familiarity with real-time systems or event-driven architectures
